A report, Competition drives evolution of ‘super sperm’ in New Scientist shows how competition drives evolution of sperm. More promiscuous Cichlid fishes produce larger, faster and longer-living sperm than their monogamous counterparts. Apparently, researchers in Germany have identified an oral sex gene and shows how female Cichlids go “sperm shopping” driving stiffer competition among the sperm.
